About MUMIE

MUMIE is a web-based learning- and teaching environment specialized in mathematics and mathematical sciences. Learning with the MUMIE is participating in the discovery and exploration of concepts, facts and applications, where emphasis is put onto an active role of learners. Examples and applications with demonstrations, interactive visualizations and training modules deepen understanding of abstract concepts, results, algorithms and methods.
The acronym MUMIE stands for teaching mathematics to engineers supported by multimedia.

The project was started in 2000 and financed until 2004 by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The consortium was made up by the RWTH-Aachen (Prof. Volker Enss), the TU-Muenich (Dr. Peter Vachenauer), the University of Potsdam (Prof. Mathias Holschneider) and the TU-Berlin (Dipl.phys.Sabina Jeschke, now Prof. at the University of Stuttgart). The project was directed by Prof. Ruedi Seiler (TU-Berlin).

After 2004 the project was continued under his guidance at the TU-Berlin with financial support from the European Union, the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) and the TU-Berlin. It is now integral part of mathematics education for freshmen engineering students at the TU-Berlin (see Who Uses Mumie).

The project is headed by Prof. Ruedi Seiler. Chief developer of the MUMIE is Dr. Tilman Rassy.
